Confirmation at Trinity, Southport, Saturday May 30th

Confirmation is a mature public re-affirmation of faith, and a renewal of commitment to the Baptismal Covenant. It is a unique opportunity for our young people to wrestle again with the Truth of the Gospel and the power of God in their lives. It is also an opportunity for the rest of us to participate in that process. We all need renewal, at least I know I do. Here are several announcements for the next few months. On the reverse side is the confirmation class schedule.

**This year's confirmation class involves several elements:

  • Confirmation Age is 9th and 10th graders, non-Trinity-members welcome as well.
  • Confirmation is at Trinity, Southport, on May 30th.
  • Working with a sponsor through a workbook.
  • Participation in 1 retreat this year.

**Sponsors

Each and every confirmand is going to work with a sponsor. Sponsors are adult members of Trinity parish. We will be deliberate but flexible as we pair up teens and sponsors. All sponsor-teen pairs need to be acceptable to the teen and the sponsor of course but also to the parents, to Eric, and to Fr. Nicholas. The teen and sponsor will meet 9 times before May 30th and work through a workbook together (Keeping the Promise by Parker has a mentor and a confirmand edition). These pairs should be decided by early November and will check in with Eric a few times over the year.

**Participation in at least one retreat before May is mandatory

One upcoming option, I highly recommend this:

  • Nightwatch @ the Cathedral of St John the Divine in New York City.

This is the single best retreat experience in the North East, and spots will go very quickly, so let Eric know asap.

Friday and Saturday, December 12th-13th 4pm-4pm. $50.00 per person includes transportation to and from NYC, breakfast and snacks, Nightwatch program. Meet new people, play together, pray together, laugh together.

Other options,

Honduras in February, New Orleans in April, possibly confirmation retreats at Camp Washington in the Spring (these may fall through though because they are diocese-led).

For busy people, the December date above is the 'easiest,' so get back to me asap.

Thanks and Peace, Eric
