By 1737, the parish had outgrown its Mill Plain building and a new and larger church was built in the center of Fairfield. Between 1737 and the Revolutionary War, Trinity Parish became the leading Anglican Parish in Connecticut. However, in 1779 the church was burned to the ground by the British and services had to be held in private homes for the next ten years.
